Last year AutoTrek was awarded the 2009-2010 Quality Dealer of the Year by the Colorado Independent Automobile Dealers Association. This meant that AutoTrek would represent Colorado and the CIADA at the national level, competing against other top dealers from around the country for the title of National Quality Dealer of the Year. During the NIADA convention held in June, the qualifiers were honored at the awards banquet and recognized for all their hard work during the year. Unfortunately, AutoTrek did not come home with the top prize, but it was an honor just to be a part of it. President Dean Strawn said, “I really thought we had it in the bag. But after seeing everyone’s work, I was proud that we were in the company of such great dealerships.”

It is a huge honor just to be nominated and would not be possible without all of our Credit Union partners and all of the members we have served over the years.

Last month, one of our outstanding consultants, Peggy Pino, and our VP of Marketing, Steve Bouras, attended a charity carnival co-sponsored by AutoTrek and Arapahoe Credit Union at Clayton Elementary School in Englewood. Each year, Arapahoe Credit Union selects a local, underprivileged school to spoil with an evening of fun, and this year AutoTrek wanted to help out by donating the food and drinks. Despite the soggy conditions, they had a turn out of over 350 people who played games, ate hot dogs and mingled with other members of the community. We’re always proud that our team members are ready and willing to step up for a good cause to help the community!

So you’ve decided to buy a car from AutoTrek! While it’s always exciting to get into something new, you first have to get out of the old. Our brokers check Kelly Blue Book and NIADA values to price out your car, then use a bidding system with all of our contacts around Colorado to get you the very best money for your trade in. However, there are some things you can do to help them out and make the transition into your new ride that much smoother!

First, you’ll want to check your car over for any minor repairs that you could handle yourself. Burned out taillights, chips in the windsheild and small dents are all repairs that can be done for less than $100 and they can really improve your resale value beyond the cost of the repair. By saving the dealer time spent to fix it later on, you can reap big benefits by doing it before you trade in your vehicle.

Bring any documents that you have pertaining to service records or preventative maintenance you may have had done. This kind of information usually doesn’t show up on any vehicle reports, but can be used to prove that you have gone above and beyond the keep the car in good working order. A car that has been treated well in the past, especially one with high mileage, is more likely to go the distance in the future.

Lastly, clean all of your personal belongings out of the vehicle. You may even want to shake out the floor mats or give them a quick once-over with the vacuum. An uncluttered car makes it easier to see the condition of upholstery and carpets, as well as saves you from lugging all that junk into your brand new ride!

Follow these steps and you’ll be well on your way to a great deal!

You may not believe it, but there are people out there who hang on to their cars beyond the 100,000 mile mark. Some even love their cars to the 200,000th click of the odometer. But on a rare occasion, you may find a driver who has seen the “kill screen” on their odometer and pushed it beyond one million miles!

“Automaker Saab announced recently that it would give a free car to any original U.S. Saab owner who drives the car one million miles or more. Spurring the challenge were Wisconsin insurance salesman Peter Gilbert and his 1989 Edwardian Gray Saab 900 SPG, whose odometer not long ago clicked over to six zeros.

His car, now in a museum, still has its original engine and turbocharger.

That’s impressive, but he can’t touch retired New York schoolteacher Irv Gordon, who’s in Guinness World Records for having driven more than two and a half million miles in his cherry-red 1966 Volvo P1800.”

Source: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/SaveonaCar/CarsThatLastAMillionMiles.aspx?GT1=33017

It’s more likely that a car owner will get bored than that their vehicle will wear out before they’ve logged 200,000 miles. But if you’re willing to go the distance, there are some things you can do to keep your engine happy without needing any major repairs:

□ Read your owners manual and follow the recommended service schedule. Some people swear that by changing their oil every 3,000 miles on the dot, they’ve been able to prolong the life of their car. However, not all cars need that kind of TLC, which is why it is so important to read your manual.

□ Don’t let salt and chemicals from the road build up on your car, as it can cause corroding rust. People in Florida don’t have to worry about this as much, but in Colorado it’s a big hazard to the longevity of your ride!

□ Cross your fingers for a little luck. Sometimes, Murphy’s Law takes control and your car is doomed from the get go. But proper maintenance can do a lot to improve your odds!

We want to hear from you! Have you or someone you know hung on to an Old Faithful? Or would you rather get that new car smell every two years? Do you have any tips to keep a car in top shape? Let us hear your comments!
